Who would have thought that digital DJing would be embraced so widely so quickly?

Gone are the heavy packed record bags and 20 minute trudges into town. In are laptops, gizmos and wires.  This is the way now for Kovas, the Wales based DJ and producer.

Since 1997 Kovas (real name Pete Griffin) has spent his spare time working the angles of the UK DJ lifestyle. Before the dot.com bubble burst Kovas presented radio shows on SBN and ejay.com, and guested here, there and everywhere, including over-the-air radio appearances in Canada, Germany, Wales and the Czech Republic.

 

Behind the decks is where he felt most comfortable. Promoting events in his adopted city of Cardiff earned the English visitor his stripes and lead to UK wide plays and residencies for years to come.

Many great nights and not too many memories. He has shared billing with the likes of DJ Woody, Kutmaster Kurt, Moneyshot, DJ Pogo, Prime Cuts, Shy FX, D Bridge, Grooverider, London Electricity, Finger Thing, High Contrast and many more. He describes it as honour, great fun and a bit of a blur.

 

But those days can't last forever and now Kovas keeps it simple with residencies at Laguna Bar, muttywango and Buffalo Bar With age brings many things - and one of those is a bad back. Zing! Digital DJ era incoming and the solution he chose was Torq

On the production side Kovas has made beats for his DJing purposes for years, thanks to ease of Fruity Loops and Cool Edit, his chief production tools. His cuts featured on the notorious UK hip hop & Blues band Fugazi Rum in 2004. ?I tend to make tunes simply for me. I make them, play them out, and that?s it,? he said.
